Hang out with the local animals

This one is always a good ‘slowie’ to have up your sleeve. Locally we can visit the horses, see the rabbits, spot the squirrels and if we’re really living on the edge go and say hi to the swan family. Kids love to have a reason for an escapade and when you make a special trip out like this, the anticipation is half the enjoyment. We decided we’d take a stroll up to the horses this afternoon and it was a lovely trip out. The horses came over to inspect us and see what we were up to and the children loved their close encounter. We talked about their colourings and why they might be wearing coats. We talked about what they eat and where they sleep and it really got the children thinking and questioning. Then on our return home we drew pictures and talked some more. A simple, fun and educational trip.  Happy days.
